Heartland
Due to the many counties and cities represented by the Heartland Chapter, we are currently varying meeting locations in order to best reach out to as many public trails advocates as possible. Our current priority is establishing relationships with Missouri Department of Conservation Area land managers including Rudolf Bennitt Memorial State Park, Rock Bridge Memorial State Park, Three Creeks Conservation Area, and Prairie Home Conservation Area. Some members have a special interest in the Mark Twain National Forest trails as well.

Local couple featured …
David and Brenda Reed are featured in an article on page 32 of Momentum magazine published by MFA Oil. Titled “Saddling Up for St. Jude,” the article is about their 17 years of coordinating and hosting the benefit event. David and Brenda are long-time members and leaders of Associate Member Randolph County Saddle Club. David is Assistant Trail Master of Heartland Chapter.
On February 9, 2017, the BCHA concept and mission was presented to a large group of saddle club members and other interested individuals in Midway, Missouri. The Boonville Boot & Saddle and Randolph County Saddle Club memberships were well-represented and deserve great credit for the large attendance. That preliminary chapter organizational meeting proved overwhelming interest in forming a new BCHMO Chapter to represent the central Missouri area.
On March 16, 2017, a second chapter organizational meeting was held in Clark, Missouri with forty-six individuals in attendance. The official membership approved the name Heartland Chapter. Officers nominated and elected include Robert Phillips as Trail Master, David Reed as Vice Trail Master, and Mary Lamar as Paper Trail Master. As of June 30, 2017, thirty-four people hold paid memberships in the Heartland Chapter but we anticipate rapid growth as we get acquainted, learn the ropes, and network.
On April 1, 2017, the Heartland Chapter, the eleventh Chapter of BCHMO, was recognized concurrent with the renaming of the state organization to Back Country Horsemen Missouri. On April 13, 2017, the first official Heartland Chapter meeting was held again in Clark, Missouri. Member Stacie Smith stood in for the Paper Trail Master, Mary Lamar, due to an untimely (and yes, horse-related) injury. Stacie Smith was also chosen to manage online activities at that time. We continue to develop and streamline those efforts and related communications.
