Missouri State Fair – Opening Day Parade
An invitation from Trails End Chapter to all Back Country Horsemen of Missouri Members
Two years ago, several chapters had members who participated with the Trail’s End Chapter, and we rode in the Opening Day Parade of the Missouri State Fair, representing Back Country Horsemen of Missouri. We won first place that year in the equine division! Last year they did not have a parade, but there will be one this year.
It is our hope that representatives from all the state chapters will be able to join us on August 12, 2021, to ride again in the parade. Lineup will start about 5 pm and parade at 6 pm. Afterwards we will have a potluck around a campfire as we did our first year! The meat will be provided (grilled hamburgers and hotdogs) but request that each person brings a carry-in dish (side, desert, etc.).
Dale and Liz Yelton have opened their property (directly on the Katy Trail and a few miles from the MO State Fair Grounds) for individuals from Back Country Horsemen of MO to rustic & generator camp. They do have sites with water and electricity, but these were all rented from visitors to Sedalia during the fair. There are 12 horse stalls and a large corral to hold the horses. You shouldn’t have to bring your own pens. The campground address and information is below.
Camp Location: Lazy Liz Horse & RV Campground on Sacajawea Rd. (Yelton Property of off Katy Trail)
21701 Sacajawea Rd. Sedalia, Missouri 65301. Phone: (816) 935-2357.
State Fair Shopping Center is the parking for trailers/trucks if you choose not to ride on the trail to connect with the rest of the parade. Please bring your Coggins. The State Veterinarian has checked these in years past, so wanted to make sure you were prepared.
Please do not hesitate to call Staci Harrison with any questions, 573-434-6925. Please let me know if you plan to attend so that we can better prepare for food, accommodations, etc.
