2017 (Early) Spring News
Tri-Lakes Chapter events for early spring is proving to be a “weather driven” success or cancellation. The first event planned for Lead Mine Conservation Area was a “wash-out” but success for several other service opportunities.
- April 4th. Bolivar Landing (COE) event. Under the leadership of Jimmy Strader, trails were cleared, trail head cleaned, and general maintenance completed. Clearing required chainsaw use in some areas. Jimmy continues to keep the trailhead mowed and looking good!
- April 22nd. Earth Day at Busiek State Forest (MDC). This project was planned by our chapter leadership and MDC Resource Forester, Lance Bushan. A group of hardy Tri-Lakes Chapter members met to make improvements at the Busiek State Forest trail head. The overnight rains prohibited any actual work on trails. Under the leadership of Chapter Leaders Larry Dishman and Tom Senter, a mounting block was placed at the trail head. Another great improvement was the building and setting a kiosk displaying a map of the area along with trail ethics and Leave No Trace Principles for visitors to read and put into practice. Thank you to Larry Dishman for the construction of both the mounting block and kiosk. The kiosk was like a puzzle being put together on site. Great work on the part of our workers; the puzzle went up quickly and with all pieces in place!
All enjoyed a great cookout provided by the Resource Forester Lance and co-workers. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and all the trimmings were enjoyed by all.
- Our members continue to work on their own while riding and not waiting for an official workday. Thanks go to all who put into practice our mission of taking care of trails as a “way of life.” Keep those hours tracked and turned in.
- Other events are coming up for this spring. Check out our calendar!
